To all Karate Federations

and Associations in the World

Become a member of IKU

Dear Friends in Karate,

The International Karate Union (IKU) was founded by some of the most respected people with a great karate history and associations of various countries on 19 January 2013. IKU offers a new way for karate with a desire to bring together all clubs, associations or federations within a member country/territory under one banner. In this way IKU hopes to contribute to the development of friendly relationships and closer links among its member national federations and the wider karate and/or sporting world.

The IKU will accept one federation or association per country and that federation or association will be obliged to ensure that all karateka within their country/territory will have access to IKU championships. IKU has member federations across the world which is increasing daily.

Aims and Objectives: The IKU is an organization with non-political, non-profit, truly democratic and transparent to the service of the national federations members and especially based on true values:

education, respect and great friendship. We will demonstrate with our deeds that this is possible, by building a new direction for karate!

Membership criteria: Any non-profit and non-political National Karate federations or associations may be members of the IKU. However, they must have legal status, a democratic structure and comply with the aims and objectives of the IKU.

In order to be recognized as an Official Member a national federation must be Multistyle (be open to all styles), unless the country is small in size and population or its history in karate has developed only one style.

If you are interested in becoming a member of IKU (if not already represented your country) write to:

I remind you that 15 to 18 May, in Foz de Iguacu (Brazil), will hold our 2nd World Championship for Seniors and Veterans and Brazil Open for Childrens and Cadets. This event will be open to all associations and national federations of each country (with the exception of countries where there is an official federation recognized by IKU, and for this please see our website).
